What a milestone in a married couples life. 60 years! It certainly deserved a celebration. It was a great pleasure to go along and capture some of the friends and relatives of Don & Dorothy. Originally from Manchester, having spent many happy times in The Lake District, dancing their way at several Hotels in the area, they decided to move up a few years ago and settle in Kendal. The Linthwaite Hotel, as usual, did a tremendous job making sure everything was just so. With four generations of family present and many friends it clearly was a joyous occasion for all involved.

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010I was recently reading a blog from another photographer based on the other side of the world whose photographs I always find intriguing. It was clear from his comments that he often receives questions from other photographers wanting to know exactly how he post produces his work. This presumably means that they want to produce exactly the same style and effect. He made the point that every photographer should develop their own style, a point I completely agree with. It is good in my opinion to look at other work from which you can gain inspiration and ideas, but what is the point of copying exactly? The idea of any artform, including photography, is to express yourself and how you see something or someone. Not everyone will like our results but if sufficient people do then you have a business you can earn a living from and at the same time gain real job satisfaction. It is good to stand back occasionally and examine whether you are holding to your original ideas of what you wanted to produce. It is easy to get sidetracked!
This is Lena.

In our Blog you will find Wedding, Portrait, Commercial, Family and some oddball Photography. We have been asked several times to define our style of Wedding photography and of course there is a whole host of words out there to describe photographic styles, photojournalism, reportage, traditional, documentary, fine art and the list goes on. We have come to realise that our (Ruth and I work together) style is based primarily around intimate images. We do all the other schtuff mentioned before but a common theme that runs through our work is 'intimacy'. The wedding is about the couple and the rest of us are there to observe. But ultimately it is about the love that the couple have for each other. That is what we seek to represent in the photographs we produce. You are the best judge of whether we succeed.
