Jules and MaryBeth had asked me to meet them at 10:00am at the Kirkstile Inn near Cockermouth for their Pre Wedding photographs. I calculated it would be about a two hour drive so I was dreading an early morning rise and drive on a Monday morning. I am not good at early mornings but am OK with late nights. It is 2:20am on a Saturday morning as I write this but I am likely to be fast asleep at 9:00am! Anyway I set off at 8:00am on a beautiful sunny morning and despite it being in the middle of the tourist season for Cumbria I arrived 1hour 15 minutes later giving me time for a black coffee in the Inn before Jules and MaryBeth arrived. I hadn’t spent much time around this part of The Lake District before so needed some time to scout out some backdrops anyway. What a stunning place and both Jules and MaryBeth had grown up through their childhood nearby. Jules met MaryBeth at a School Dance when she was only 14 years of age and after a long friendship love had blossomed. The Wedding is planned for December and we are all hoping there will be a fresh covering of snow on the ground. I went a little crazy with the Pre Wedding photographs having taken some 250 of which I managed to get down to 230 and then I was stuck. I guess Jules and MaryBeth will have to meet the challenge of which one to pick for their Signature Board!
I really enjoy pre wedding photographs because it is so relaxed, giving plenty of time to get to know the couple before the big day. We had a great time together and I hope that shows through in the photographs below.

In our Blog you will find Wedding, Portrait, Commercial, Family and some oddball Photography. We have been asked several times to define our style of Wedding photography and of course there is a whole host of words out there to describe photographic styles, photojournalism, reportage, traditional, documentary, fine art and the list goes on. We have come to realise that our (Ruth and I work together) style is based primarily around intimate images. We do all the other schtuff mentioned before but a common theme that runs through our work is 'intimacy'. The wedding is about the couple and the rest of us are there to observe. But ultimately it is about the love that the couple have for each other. That is what we seek to represent in the photographs we produce. You are the best judge of whether we succeed.
