Wedding Photographers Cumbria and Anna’s Cherish The Dress Photoshoot

I have had a quiet week this week so it has given me opportunity to process some more images and watch a few videos from other wedding photographers around the world. Making pictures is not something, in my opinion, you can ever rest with on previous accomplishments. Trends change, new technology appears and ideas begin to surface that appeal to a new generation of people. So we have to keep up! That means trying new ways and we know that not all images will appeal to everyone. I mentioned on my Facebook Blog this week that I have been trained by two of the worlds leading wedding photographers and there is no doubt that it has dramatically improved my awareness of what works in an image. Then of course there are now so many software treatments one can apply to a photograph to change its appearance. I have included a small sample in this blog just to give an idea of what can be achieved. All this means that it is vital for the wedding photographer to spend time with the Client prior to the actual wedding so that we can understand what appeals to you, our customer. That is why we promote a pre wedding shoot to all our Clients, it helps to get to know one another, build a good relationship, gets you comfortable with the process of having your photograph taken and enables us to clearly understand what you want.

I don’t particularly consider myself a photographer of children but I am happy to oblige when asked! They say that practice makes you better anyway. So I met up with Katy and her three children on the same day we were shooting a Cherish The Dress session with Anna and a Lifestyle shoot with Amy. A busy day! I was expecting it to present some challenges, with having a small baby sandwiched between two active kids, but they were all amazingly easy to work with and I think we managed quite well. Having had three girls of our own we probably know more about getting the best out of reluctant children than we realise. Anyway Joel, Brody and Robyn were far from reluctant and happy to join in.

Wedding Photographers Cumbria with Amy Lifestyle Photoshoot

What a busy week this has been with a Family photoshoot, a Cherish The Wedding Dress session which you can find on our dedicated Wedding website www.schtuff.com and finally Amy’s lifestyle photoshoot. We travelled down to the border with Lancashire and made use of an old Mill that has been restored to full working order as an example of the way old corn mills use to work. In a couple of weeks time we have a Wedding to shoot with Thomas and Natasha when we travel over to Barrow and are hoping to get some great shots around the red stone of Furness Abbey, so watch out for that one. Cumbria Wedding Photographer with Lindsay & Ian in Troutbeck Cumbria Pre Wedding Photoshoot

It’s great when a plan comes together. We had agreed to meet Ian & Lindsay late in the afternoon so that we would be able to shoot their Pre Wedding photoshoot in the early evening light. It is an accepted photographic principle that the best light is either early in the morning or late in the afternoon and early evening. It seems to take on a magical quality and this transferred itself to this very much in love couple as they were bathed in golden sunlight. They are both Teachers so full respect to them, it isn’t a job I would like to tackle these days! The Wedding itself will be held later this year at The Inn On The Lake Ullswater Cumbria. A fantastic location and where we met Ian and Lindsay to start off this pre wedding, moving on up to Troutbeck to catch the last of daylight. A few days after the shoot we received this email from them both: ‘We had a great evening on the photo shoot and believe me I am camera shy! The photos are looking great though. I think this is more to do with Steve and Ruth’s professionalism and skill rather than anything else. I would recommend Steve and Ruth to anyone, they are a lovely, friendly couple and they made us feel extremely relaxed, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves even though I was dreading the camera. I usually look terrible in photos so I am over the moon with the results. Only problem is I like far too many of them. How does one choose? Can’t wait for the wedding and I now don’t have to worry about the photos as I know they will be absolutely fabulous! Thanks again. Lindsay and Ian’. Cumbria Wedding Photographer and HRH Prince Charles Visit to Cumbria

This was certainly a very different proposition from shooting weddings as I was commissioned to photograph HRH Prince Charles visit in Staveley, specifically to More Bakery. From a photographers viewpoint a different set of challenges as there is no opportunity to set up shots, you just have to be ready to take whatever photographs you can get. Of course Prince Charles is surrounded by many people on his visits some of whom you would not choose to argue with! His Press Secretary was very helpful however and with his assistance it proved to be a successful shoot. The Prince spent a lot of time with Patrick at More Bakery and was clearly impressed with what has been achieved there. Of course now having photographed Royalty all my prices for weddings have doubled. Just kidding. Wedding Photographers Cumbria with Katie and Michael at Tarn Hows Cumbria

There is nowhere better to photograph Couples than the Lake District, especially when the weather is in our favour as it was on Saturday morning when we took this Pre Wedding photoshoot of Katie and Michael. They had lots of fun and so did we, especially when they both got in the Tarn up to their armpits almost! Needless to say after that happened the morning came to a close and we all walked back to the cars, with water dripping off Katie and Michael all the way back. The whole idea of the pre wedding shoot is to get to know each other better, which we certainly did, and get some cool shots for the couple to choose a Signature Board from. The backdrop at Tarn Hows is really special and hopefully you will agree we were able to capture this for them.

That’s it in March for Ruth and I, however we start early again in April with another Pre Wedding Shoot and another photographic assignment I am not able to divulge at this time, but will I am sure be of great interest when we are able to Blog it later in the month. Wedding Photographers Cumbria Pre Wedding Shoot with Thomas & Tash

A typical Lake District afternoon greeted us when we met up with Thomas and Tash but we still managed to find some great locations for their Pre Wedding Photoshoot. We started out in Brathay and drove round the lanes looking for sheltered positions where we were able to jump out of the car and set up the shots. As the afternoon moved on the rain eased off and we found ourselves in Skelwith Bridge, using the slate yard and buildings for the backdrops. We had discussed a Cherish the Dress session with Rachel a few months back when we photographed Rachel and her husband David on a Lifestyle shoot. We finally got it scheduled for earlier this week and arranged to visit a local Mill to use as a location and blend into the Vintage theme we were looking for. This sort of photoshoot is far more relaxed than an actual wedding as there is no time pressure on anyone and the Bride can take her time to get into it. Wedding Photographers Cumbria with Joe & Angela at The Belsfield Hotel Bowness

A lovely sunny day greeted us as we set off for Joe’ Mum and Dad’s in Kendal and the start of this Cumbria Wedding. A generous family member had arranged for a gorgeous vintage Bentley to pick Angela up from her home and drive across to Bowness. The Belsfield Hotel has some fantastic rooms to shoot in and although it was chilly the snow just set off the backdrop. joe had decided to wear some cool Batman shoes and his brother amused everyone with his antics. All in all a great day.
