 Lake District Cartmel Village River Photograph from the charming village of Cartmel near Grange Over Sands may encourage you to visit the area.  Cartmel has its own horse racecourse with meetings about five times a year.  The river meanders through the centre of the village and the place boasts its own gastronomic restaurant, L'enclume, which I have not personally tried but am told is very good.  The roads around Cartmel Village are narrow and well visited so allow plenty of time to get the best from the area.
